PRIVACY AND DATA PROTECTION POLICY

This privacy statement informs you of how we are committed to taking care of your personal data. Through this statement, we tell you, for example, what information we use to provide you with the SALT Transportation Services, how we use your data to provide you with security, and the choices and controls available to you. We also use this statement to inform you of your privacy rights and how the Data Protection Regulation works for everyone’s protection.

The operator of your personal data is the company TIME SALT SRL (CUI 48150851, NRC:J36/221/12.05.2023 with headquarters in Strada a II a, no. 27, Sulina, TULCEA, Romania)

We have appointed a data protection officer, who you can contact at privacy@timesalt.co

By the term „we”, we mean the owner of the SALT application, namely TIME SALT SRL, a limited liability company established in Romania. The term „your” or „your” refers to the passenger or traveler who requests, rents and/or benefits from a transport service, through his account in the SALT application.

1. Personal data we process

We only process the information we need to be able to offer you the best services in our transport market.

Contact data: data such as name, telephone number and email address. 

Profile information: language and communication preferences. 

Geolocation: for example, where exactly you need to travel from, or where the nearest scooters are to you

Payment information, such as the amount charged and the card used for payment.

Records of communication and correspondence, for example when you contact us via the in-app chat service, or when you speak to our customer service agents.

Limited data identifying the device on which the SALT application was installed, such as the IP address

Data on the use of transportation services: for example, data on the status of the trip

Data regarding communication via instant messaging directly in the SALT application („Chat support” option): date and time of communication and its content.

2. Purpose of data processing We process your data in order to be able to offer you one of our transport services:

We help you find a scooter or rent a vehicle: We collect and process personal data in order to show you the nearest place to you where our available rental vehicles – such as our scooters – are located. Instant messages sent directly to the SALT application are processed for the purpose of providing services and support to users, for security-related purposes, as well as to improve our products and services, or for analysis.

We make sure you have a smooth journey: We use geolocation data to make sure you get to your destination and to fix problems with the quality of our services. We also need to know where you choose to leave a rental vehicle so we can charge you the right rate, charge your batteries and maintain our fleet.

This data is collected only when the SALT application is activated. The collection of geolocation data ceases after the SALT application is closed. 

We make sure the app is perfect: We use contact details to notify passengers and travelers of updates to the SALT app so you can continue to use our services. We also collect a limited set of data from the device you use to connect to our services via the Internet, mobile or telephone and to ensure the security of your account through authentication controls and verifications.

We make sure you get the fastest, cheapest and most convenient ride: We collect data on the routes taken by our users to analyze the geographical coverage. This allows us to take a number of optimization actions regarding our rental vehicles, such as our scooters, which are located at the most convenient points for customers.

We collect your payments: We collect payment details in order to process the payment made by the passenger on behalf of the drivers for the ride-hailing services. We also process payments for our rental vehicles such as our scooters.

Customer support and correspondence data is collected for feedback, dispute resolution and service quality complaint purposes.

We keep you informed: Your name, phone number and email address will be used to communicate with you, for example to notify you of the end of your ride, to send you receipts and ride confirmation vouchers you and to notify you of important service updates, such as when we suspend our scooter rental services due to inclement weather.

3. Legal basis

We are authorized to use personal data in the ways described above if we have a good reason to do so. We always ensure that we have a legitimate reason to process your personal data.

In general, personal data is processed for the purpose of providing the services you have contracted through the SALT application. This means that in order to provide you with the service we have promised you and to comply with our terms and conditions, we will process your personal data in order to fulfill these obligations.

In general, in other circumstances, we process your data based on reasons related to our legitimate interests. Legitimate interests include our commercial interests in providing an innovative, personalised, safe and beneficial service to all our passengers and partners, unless other interests override these interests. Our legitimate interests also include investigating and detecting fraudulent payments and other malicious activity, maintaining the security of our network and systems, and responding to suspicious or criminal activity.

We may occasionally rely on alternative legal grounds when:

there is a need to comply with a legal obligation, such as data processing when required by law, including, for example, when there is a legitimate request to disclose personal data to a third party, such as a judicial authority or regulatory authority;

to protect your vital interests, or those of others, for example in emergency or life-threatening situations; or

you have expressly given us consent to do so, for another specific purpose of which you have been fully informed.

If you choose not to share your personal data with us, we may not be able to fulfill our contractual obligations to you, or you may prevent us from carrying out an activity required by law. It may also mean that we cannot intervene in your account. For example, we collect and process the personal data that you communicate to us during the installation and use phase of the SALT application; by refusing to provide us with your geolocation data through the app, we will not be able to show you one of our rental vehicles located near you. We will not be able to fulfill our obligations to you in any other circumstances, for example if you refuse to carry out an identity check to ensure that your account is correct, your account may be suspended or blocked,

4. Recipients

We only work with trusted authorities and partners. We only disclose data when we have a good reason to do so. We limit disclosure to what is strictly necessary. We do not sell your personal data.

We may respond to requests, such as those from law enforcement, when we have a good faith belief that the response is required by law in that jurisdiction or furthers a public interest task, impacts users in that jurisdiction or is compatible with internationally recognized standards. Regardless of the circumstances, we will always ensure that we have a legal basis for disclosing that information and we will ensure that we document that decision.

5. Security and Access

All personal data collected during the provision of the services we offer are transferred and stored in data centers on the territory of the member states of the European Union. Only authorized employees of the Time Salt group and their partners have access to personal data and can access data only for the purpose of solving problems related to the use of services (including disputes regarding transport services).

For our scientific and research purposes, all data, such as geolocation data blocks, is stored in anonymized form, so that you can never be identified based on it.

6. Your rights and the controls you can use

We want to keep control of your personal data. Within the SALT App, we provide controls through which you can view your own personal data, including your profile data and travel history. We also provide in-app settings such as marketing options and transparent systems to control the use of cookies on our website. 

Your right to access data

You can access your personal data through the SALT application. You have the right to ask us for copies of your personal data. There are a number of exceptions, such as when we must also respect the rights of others, which means that you may not always receive all the information we process.

Your right to rectify data

You can access your personal data through the SALT app and update it. You have the right to ask us to correct information that you believe is incorrect. You also have the right to ask us to complete information that you consider to be incomplete.

Your right to delete data 

You have the right to ask us to delete your personal data in certain circumstances. 

Your right to restrict data processing

You have the right to ask us to limit the processing of your personal data in certain circumstances. This means that your data can only be used for certain purposes, such as defending or exercising rights in court.

Your right to object to data processing

You can exercise your right to object to data processing if we process your data based on legitimate interests. You can request the withdrawal or cancellation of any automated decision we have made and request that it be re-evaluated by a person.

Your right to data portability

You have the right to request that we transfer the information you have provided to us, from one organization to another, or to you, in certain circumstances. This rule applies strictly to the information you have provided to us.

7. Storage

The SALT company keeps the data strictly for the time interval necessary to achieve the purposes described above. This means that we will keep different categories of data for different periods of time, depending on the type of data to which the transport service relates and the purposes for which we collected that data.

Your personal data will be stored as long as you have an active passenger account. In the event of closing your account, personal data will be deleted (according to our retention schedule and rules), except where this data is still necessary to fulfill a legal obligation, or for purposes related to accounting, dispute resolution or fraud prevention.


The data required for accounting purposes will be stored for seven years from the last trip.

If there is suspicion of criminal offences, fraudulent activities or transmission of false information, the data will be stored for up to 10 years.

In case of payment disputes, the data will be kept until the settlement of the claim or until the expiry of the term for the settlement of that claim.

Travel history data and data on the use of transport services will be stored for three years, after which they will be converted to anonymous data.

Please note that uninstalling the SALT app from your device does not delete your personal data. If the SALT app has not been used for three years, we will contact you and ask you to confirm whether you want to keep your account active for future use. If we do not receive any response within a reasonable period of time, the account will be closed and the personal data will be deleted, except where this data is necessary for one of the purposes mentioned above in this statement.

8. Direct marketing

We may send marketing messages directly to your email address and/or telephone number if you have given us your consent to do so, or based on a customer opt-in option. We may personalize direct marketing messages using information about how you use SALT Company Services, such as how often you use the SALT App, or your shipping preferences.

If you wish to stop receiving direct marketing messages, please click on the „Unsubscribe” link in the footnote of one of the emails we send, or select the opt-out option in the profile section of the SALT app . 

9. Dispute resolution

Disputes regarding the processing of personal data are resolved through SALT’s data protection officer privacy@timesalt.co

Our supervisory authority is the National Supervisory Authority for the Processing of Personal Data

We hope this privacy statement was to your understanding.

Personal data protection legislation is important. It sets out provisions and enhances your rights to be informed. Many of these provisions may seem complicated, but most are based on common sense principles. We take responsibility for your data very seriously.
